Well, he can plan all he wants to. I maintain that there's no way this creeper that enslaves women is not publicly known and would be high priority for any law enforcement agency concerned with protection women. Also, the women in this scenario hail from Beverly Hills - some of the most powerful and influential in the world and therefore the most watched and photographed. All in all Mandrill has a number of disadvantages, and is also a pretty ewwww character in general - and I remember thinking that as a kid when the character would pop-up. It's not like that power ever seemed to really work out for him. I think it has a limited radius around him. Backing Angar on this one. Let the voters decide!
-
Now this is just disingenuous. I've read comics with Mandrill appearances. No one is doing anything willingly in those issues. It's clear they are under the power of the pheromones. There is no free-will when the pheromones are making them do things they would not normally do. *shudder*

What? This character would be, like, anathema to women everywhere. It's Harvey Weinstein with a baboon head. The character literally enslaves women! I mean... that kind of thing isn't really tolerated today. The character would be the talk of social media, and probably considered the most creepy thing on the planet. Every person on the planet would know it on sight. There is no way this creepy thing talks it's way out of getting captured or killed. Angar, on the other hand, is a well read master of philosophy and a chic radical social activist. The kind of thing Beverly Hills loves naturally, no enslavement of women required.

I like Red Sonja in this battle. Red brings more to the table than her opponent Seras. 1. Stealth Master with hightened senses - the terrain suits her. 2. Scathath's Divine Protection: As chosen of the goddess Scathath, enjoys unique benefits, including occasional good fortune, mitigation of potentially fatal blows landed against her to less fatal ones, and a vaguely divine aspect, striking awe and fear into lesser people when she needs to. She has a luck power AND she is a divine protected weapons master. Seras is vulnerable to sunlight and holy objects such as blessed weaponry. What is Seras going to even do if the sun is out? Too many disadvantages on her. Red Sonja takes it, I figure.

This is interesting. Pretty much a straight up fight between bad villains. I feel this one could go either way, but I'm liking Trapster's chances of trapping the Shocker. He has trapped stronger foes... you know, occasionally. Plus he started out with the name "Paste-Pot Pete". You have to have a lot of self confidence to call yourself that.

I'm just going to be honest and say I don't know much about the Yinchorri. The Wiki link has one line: says they are sentient turtles. I kind of ended my research there. The Shi'ar, however, I'm pretty familiar with. If all I know about their foe is that they are sentient turtles, then I'm gonna have to say that the Shi'ar have likely dealt with bigger threats. I'll wait to vote to see if anyone brings any impressive factuals about the Yinchorri to the discussion, but strong lean on Shi'ar currently.

One might think that except that he's still a super creepy villain with an animal head. 1. The power doesn't affect males - who will figure out something is up when their lady friends start giving all their money to creepy. 2. The power doesn't affect females with strong will, who will report a creeper with an animal head. 3. At some point Mandril has to let them go home, thus releasing them from the power, or there will be a hunt for wealthy missing ladies in Beverly Hills - and then they will report creepy. Now Angar is a true-blue new age hippie type. He doesn't need creepy powers to fit in in Beverly Hills and work on getting rich. And he can actually show his face in public. Gotta go with Angar.

I can easily see the disconnect here, and that's fine. I'm in the minority on this topic. I am of the opinion that Gaston possess a innate super power which I have described as a leadership aura. I base this on the song about the character and my observations from the film. Nobody else is giving the character that benefit. I get that.
-
For one, Gaston doesn't need to fool anyone. He naturally draws commoners to him with his leadership aura. It's part of his bit... there's a song about it. I'll say it's his power. For two, the townsfolk ... the hoi polloi if you will ... occupying the apparently middle-ages town of Arendelle aren't that enlightened as far as I can tell. They are the common clay that Gaston will easily mold into a force ready to ensure wicked Elsa is dealt with.

These two things seem to have something in common.

That is Tier 7. It is not allowable within the discussion of Ryu we are trying to have.
-
Base Ryu, no access to Satsui no Hado is Tier 9. If you are referencing the stats of non-base, Street Fighter 1 Ryu then that is out of tier. John Wick is a hand to hand master, defeating multiple seasoned opponents. He also has the Bulls-Eye kind of bit where any object can potentially be lethal in his hands (e.g. a pencil). Currently thinking it is a toss-up.

I definitely see an argument for both. However, I am leaning Gaston here. Elsa is already on a road towards the dark side before her redemptive arc towards the end of Frozen. What puts her on that road is the reactions of all the people around her. It is the act of first her parents, and then the towns people in general that sets her on that path. Now, nobody whips up a town into a frenzy, closes their minds and hardens their hearts like Gaston. There was a comparison made to Prince Hans and I think it is a poor comparison. Gaston is on another level - especially with Leadership and Charisma skills that bring the entire town to his point of view. He's run this playbook before - frame the target as evil (Elsa), march the entire town at to her castle, some townsfolk die, Elsa is never welcomed into the town again.... and for good measure, Gaston gets the sister back in town committed to the insane asylum. Elsa's journey to the dark side is complete.

Oh, you voted for Ultron too? It typically takes the entire Avengers to defeat Ultron. Even though Ultron and Wonder Woman occupy the same tier, I personally didn't see her kit as being able to do much to him.

12:3 - The Punisher vs. Domino (Marvel Comics)
Fox replied to UMPIRE's topic in CBUB Season Draft Matches
My understanding is that Domino's powers are not a sure thing. It's not like Longshot's probability manipulation. Punisher is no stranger to dealing with adversaries such as Spider-Man. Even with her powers, I still see Frank having decent odds. -
12:3 - Ashley J. Williams vs. The Event Horizon
Fox replied to UMPIRE's topic in CBUB Season Draft Matches
It has been a long time since I have seen Event Horizon. Probably when it first came to video. If I recall correctly, the Event Horizon affects people's minds. It has a strong psychological component more than a physical component. Please correct me if I an misremembering the film. Over the course of the Evil Dead movies and the series (which was pretty great) we have seen that Ash has high resistance to seeing and dealing with things that drive others Mad. I think he manages to get through here. -
Lara Croft is ruled by her thirst for artifacts and treasures. She is not a lay-low character. Most of the time we assume the character will lay low. Lara Croft does not lay low. Curiosity killed the cat, and it may be her undoing on this one.

This season has a loooong way to go. This season will be running through Christmas and New Years. Take the long view and believe in your team!

As the challenge is Zootopia and Scar has, to his evil credit, a track record of pulling off well executed framing... I'm leaning towards the smooth talking lion. Having watched Lion King animated film again, recently, I am reminded that Scar is cunning and intelligent and will make good use of Zootopia's criminal underground in framing the famous officer Hopps.

He does lose in the comics a lot. He has no powers and is hobbled by some built-in limitations - Riddling. I get that Riddler has more 'name brand' though, and probably should have been denied on that.

12:3 - Captain Marvel / Shazam vs. Martian Manhunter
Fox replied to UMPIRE's topic in CBUB Season Draft Matches
Justice League Vol 2 #6 suggests Shazam. https://dc-multiverse.quora.com/Shazam-vs-Martian-Manhunter-whod-win-that?share=1 But obviously they are well matched and I'm thinking it could go either way. -
I think Mordor is one of the more dangerous terrains in this category. The All Seeing Eye, Orc's sense of smell, Nazgul and Shelob all make this a well rounded dangerous terrain. I don't think it is any cakewalk. There is just as much potential for surviving 24 hours (and then dying) as there is for death prior to the time limit, I think.

12:3 - Mad Max vs. New York City Penitentiary
Fox replied to UMPIRE's topic in CBUB Season Draft Matches
I'm liking Max in this match-up. Max is no stranger to post-apocalyptic settings, gangs and situations. the dystopian New York city landscape seen in Escape From New York offers plenty of places to lay low, and I would fully expect Max to be able to survive 24 hours here even if he runs into a tussle. -
Oh, come on now. That's two rounds in a row you've asked how you missed seeing a match up. They are up for four days, take a look at them!

12:3 - Sabretooth (X-Men Movie Series) vs. Master Chief
Fox replied to UMPIRE's topic in CBUB Season Draft Matches
A further search tells me that Master Chief doesn't have jet thrusters that work in atmosphere. I mean, he's not like Iron Man. Certainly he doesn't have that in his normal kit - he has maneuver thrusters for space, essentially. I think he's going under the ice at match start.
