Premise:

Suspense! Intrigue! Shock and awe! You will be making one mega-nerded out fantasy team of FIVE custom characters. Don't argue with me if I turn down your creations due to rule violations. I am the master of this realm, and I will turn you into a goat...or just ask you to leave my thread.

The scenario will be introduced in a few days, plenty of time to dream up a nasty fellowship of powerhouses to tackle any problem.

Rules

-For you and five others, you must choose 1 power set , 1 ability set, 1 special item, 1 trainer for each of you. You must also choose three boosts for the entire team . In order to flaunt the fact you have lots of great friends you may assign them to a character if you want, but it's not necessary.

-A power set is a superhuman ability or set of abilities associated with a single individual character. Gambit's kinetic energy charging and superhuman agility are an example of a power set.

-An ability set is naturally learned or trained skill or knowledge or set of skills or knowledge disciplines associated with a single individual character. Black Panther's martial arts and scientific knowledge are an example of an ability set.

-A special item is a unique or uncommon object that has commonly been used by comic book characters that does not typically exist within the real world or could be made with common technology. The magical Ebony Blade is an example of a special item. Items that go together like Batman's suit/cape/cowl/Utility Belt or Black Panther's Vibranium suit/ Anti-Metal Claws/ Energy Daggers are allowed.

Powers

-You may not use powers that include:

Physical attributes above Spider-Man.

Magic or reality warping.

Probability altering (good or bad luck).

Illusion Casting.

Healing Factor above Wolverines.

Intangibility.

Invisibility.

Flight.

Durability equal to or above Luke Cage.

Telepathy or Telekinesis.

Force Fields.

Pheromones.

Multipliers, Duplicaotrs, or power absobers.

Tele-dismemberment.

Size Manipulation.

Mental Manipulation by any means.

An easy solution to combat situations (Omnicompetence, etc).

The Force is allowed, but can only amp characters attributes.

Abilities

-You may not use abilities that allow you to:

Gain experience beyond the span of a human life. Be reasonable here, there are plenty of highly skilled mortals to draw upon.

Somehow exceed the limitations of your physical attributes. For example, you cannot perform Spider-Man's acrobatics to the same degree he does without his superhuman agility.

Items

-You may not use items that grant the user:

Additional powers that exceed the accepted powers threshold (Mjolnir, Iron Man's Suit).

An easy solution to combat situations (Mr. X's mind, Midnighter's battle computer, etc).

Anything that would grant an easy win over a Spider-Man level character.

-The items you equip will be the only items you have for the scenario.

-Items that help you use your powers like Cyclop's visor or a few deck's of cards for Gambit are free.

-In addition to special items, you may have a small armament of standard firearms (2 pistols and 1 assault rifle/sniper rifle/shotgun) or thrown weapons.

-In addition to special items, you may have 2 melee weapons of standard materials.

-In addition to special items, you may also have armor to the grade of standard kevlar in a design of your choosing.

-As with all of my scenarios, you may not loot fallen enemies for their equipment under any circumstance.

Trainer

-You will have access to two month's training from a master of your choosing. Your trainer may not telepathically fast-track your learning(Unless you pick that as a boost). We aren't cheaters here... unless you pay for it, then it's ok. Trainers may be switched between team members.

Boosts:

Dapper Threads - 4 characters get a custom-made vibranium suit like Black Panther's.

My Favorite Color is Chrome - 3 characters get anything in their gear to be made from Vibranium or Adamantium.

It's a ghost! - Your team CANNOT be heard or smelled by any enemies.

You Read My Mind - TP Link between all team members. Your team can also telepathically sense the presence of enemies. (Range 100 yards)

The More the Merrier- You can summon any two normal comic characters that fit within the rules to permanently join your team.

The Kitchen Sink - Suit of Sorrows (No insanity) + Utility Belt + Mask w/ Re-breather, Infrared Vision, Sticky Explosive Gun from TDK, and can link to Oracle for assistance.

Hood, Robin Hood - One character gets to add Bow and Hawkeye's/Green Arrow's Trick Arrows to their gear + A bag of holding to magically carry anything your team doesn't have the room for.

Die, Die, Die My Darling - Unlimited Extended Clips of armor piercing Carbonadium Ammo

Truth, Justice, and the American Way - Wonder Woman's Lasso and Bracelets + Caps Shield

Back in Black - Vile of altered Symbiote (Grants Symbiote Spider-Man Power-set with no side effects) to one character.

Happy Halloween - Pumpkin Bombs with Joker Venom + Serum (Grants Green Goblin Physical Attributes w/ no side effects)

Does Stark Know You Have That? - EMP Device Shuts down all electric based objects for 30 minutes. (Unlimited Uses)

Training Like Goku - Fast Tracks your training for your team so it's 12x as effective ( Ex. A month training =12 months training)

Jedi Swag - Two characters get lightsabers and can use them with the effectiveness they would use a normal blade.

Double the Fun - 3 characters may have two skill sets instead of just one.

I am going to put forward a scenario in a few days that your team will have to complete. It may be a tournament where you face other peoples teams or it may be a situation where you need to defeat bad guys and save innocent lives. It could be anything....its a mystery.

Still working on my team, and since I'm about to pass out, I'll probably post my team some time tomorrow.

Gotta say though, that threads like this is, imo, a brilliant idea. Unlike the usual matches/rumbles, this actually provides a bit of a mental challenge, and is an entertaining way of testing your knowledge of comics/fiction.

Quick Question since you said no physical attributes above Spiderman does that rule out Super Speed? I was gone use Quicksilver for one of my character's powers.

An All-Marvel team, for fun:

Power set: Karnak

Skill Set: Taskmaster

Special Item: Smoke bombs and Night vision goggles

Trainer: Grandmaster

Boost: Panthers' vibranium laced suit, Cap's Shield, Telepathic Link

Actually... what are the restrictions on trainers? Grandmaster is kind of the ultimate answer for this, I think. His entire existence is figuring out how to win games, and he'd be able to conceive of incredible strategies on the fly and broadcast them via the Telepathic Link. Meanwhile, with the physical attributes of Karnak, plus his ability to sense weak points, plus Tasky's ability to adopt and execute any opponent strategies on the fly simply by watching them, (not to mention the combined physical skills of the Marvel U's best street-level characters,) throw in an obfuscation item and two amazing defensive items just in case... Yeah Grandmaster might be overdoing it.

Soooo...we are NOT allowed to use any cool superpowers, we are not allowed to give the character any cool super-weapons, and even as non-powered heroes everything they can or can't do is restricted by the laws of "realism"...

...what's the point of creating such a character, anyway? If you are gonna be like that, don't make it a superhero battle, make it a drama or a comedy. This set of rules fits a "create a Channel Awesome-like character and have him review something cool and old-fashioned" rather than "create your own superhero".

Also, is there a point to this, what with the FPL existing and all? If I ever feel the need to create another superhero, I'll use the FPL again. No restrictions in powers/abilities/weapons means more freedom to write what I want to write, as opposed to what YOU want me to write.

If I create a superhero, it will be the way I want it, not the way Lunacyde tells me to.

LOL you mean to tell me unless the character's power level is above Spiderman you can't come up with a creative superhero team? I agree with him doing it like this because then a whole bunch of people would be picking Superman level powers and more which then it would get pretty boring when everyone has all these powerful abilities. Actually in FPL you have restrictions on powers and more with points. Its to keep people from going overboard with there character.

By the way Ivan you may want reread that post again.

I don't see any part of my selection which contravenes anything in that post.

Well, there are a few things, but the OP is written in a way that's easy to misunderstand.

Power set: You only get the powers of that character. You don't get the skills(combat skills, karnak's ability to see weaknesses, Karnak's conscious control of his nervous systems, etc.)

Ability set: You only get the skills of that character(i.e. all the training that Taskmaster has, and all the skills/techniques he has already copied), you don't get the powers(i.e. Taskmaster's Photographic Reflexes).

Also, with the Trainer, the character just spends 2 months training with that trainer(unless you choose the boost to make it a longer period), the trainer doesn't join you in battle, or actively helps you in fights.

Finally, the idea is that you create 6 characters this way(yourself and 5 others), not just 1.

Taskmaster's photographic reflexes and everything that accompanies that is considered a power for this thread.

would deathstroke be considered illegal territory in this?

No

Go for it, just not in my thread. Other than sounding like a complete moron you have accomplished nothing here. if you don't like my thread don't post in it.

The point of this thread is to challenge yourself. Obviously it's not for you, so don't come in wasting everyone else's time.

It looks like all of those are good except Yuri Chang. Forge's Powers and Reeds intelligence would allow them to create just about anything and that would be an unfair Advantage. I am really sorry but it would unbalance the scenario and I'll have to say no to it.

Much appreciated for your understanding.

Also you may only have one special item. Just want to make this clear. You have T-spheres and Gambit's cards under special items. Gambit's cards come with his powers but you would include them in additional gear to special item. It's to a big deal but i don't want people to get confused.

I was given to understand that I get five identical generic dudes with five identical sets of skills and powers, who have to learn to operate as a team under the leadership of the trainer. Do you mean I am supposed to pick five already existing fictional characters, and give each one unique powers and skills of other fictional characters? If so, that's... infinitely less interesting.

I feel that Karnak's ability to sense weak points is definitely a power, not a skill. If you disagree, or if his Inhuman physiology makes him ineligible, I'll switch to King Peacock which is the same exact thing but more clearly a power, and he's Captain America level physically. I do understand now that the team won't get Taskmaster's photographic reflexes (bummer,) but he's still the ultimate answer in terms of skill set, because having skills is his skill. Also, Grandmaster is still the best choice for trainer- there is literally nobody better at conceiving win/loss scenarios across all manner of competitions. (Because there is no guarantee that this is going to be an out-and-out fight, Training by Stick or Iroh or Muten Roshi or whoever isn't guaranteed to have ANY bearing on the eventual outcome.) Two months training as a team with The Grandmaster would have them winning Battle Royales, Speed Chess, Mojoverse Gameshows, and Lumberjack competitions with equal ease.

If I'm supposed to pick five different dudes who already exist, and amp them up with bunches of powers and skills, never mind, I'm out.
