Guest Supes Rulez
Alex Mercer wiped the blood off of his blade and watched as the evac helicopter carried the wounded Cole MacGrath away with his conduit friends. He had put up quite an impressive fight, and maybe next time he could've won. He'd used another Lightning Storm to cover his escape and got away while Mercer pulled himself back together. But that didn't matter right now. Mercer quickly consumed several other infected and healed his wounds, sensing another Blackwatch task force coming his way. ***Clark Kent and Lois Lane watched the footage of the NYZ disaster unfold in horror, as Perry White listed what exactly was happening. "So the champion of Empire City, Cole MacGrath, failed to stop this freak Alex Mercer. Great Caeser's ghost, what is it gonna take to end this travesty, and why isn't that so-called security force 'Blackwatch' doing their damned jobs? That's what we're gonna find out, people! We're sending our top journalists to New York Zero to show those people we're not giving up on them." Lois packed her things while Clark was quickly and secretly forming a plan in his head. "Uh, say Lois? White just assigned us to the Yellow Zone, you mind if I bring Jimmy along for the Green Zone? We could use as many cameras as we can get down there, but I don't want to put him in any danger."Lois smiled, "Good thinking Smallville, I just hope OUR champion will be there too." She then gave a meaningful look at the headline on their wall, showing the hero Clark knew had to stop Mercer: Superman. ***"Alex Mercer." Mercer looked up, seeing a streak of red and blue flash across the street covered in Blackwatch corpses. A tall and muscular young man, in a streamlined blue suit with a bright red cape and 'S' on his chest landed ten feet from him. "This madness stops here. New York isn't going to suffer any longer because of you." Mercer looked bemused at the audacity of Superman, the hero he'd read about in his spare time. From what he'd heard Superman could be just as much of a threat as his conduit enemies, even more. "So, you're Metropolis' famous man of steel. Sorry to disappoint, but I like it here in New York! I'm not going anywhere." Superman scowled, his eyes starting to gleam a bright red. "I wasn't asking, Mercer." BAM! Mercer was thrown back by a blast of energy from Superman's eyes. Drawing his shield and whipfist, Mercer got back up snarling, ready to draw blood from steel. (Okay guys, here we go. On one side we have Superman from the New 52, a couple years after he's gained his costume and gained Metropolis' approval by fighting the Collector (aka Brainiac). Alex Mercer has recovered from his fight with Cole and is ready to fight again. Each is ready to kill for a reason, Mercer because it's what he does, and Superman because he knows Mercer isn't really 'alive'.)

Guest skadoosh
Is the new Superman much weaker than the former Superman? Because if not then, as much as i dislike him, he beats Mercer easily.

Guest force_echo
Yeah, he's a lot weaker. He was having trouble stopping a speeding bullet train, and said train smashed into him and knocked him out.
Guest skadoosh
Ha! Wow, that a severe de-powering he's gone through, there. In that case, he probably loses to Mercer's various horrible spikey abilities.
Indolent
I sincerely doubt it, even with the weakening...
Guest skadoosh
Why? If a train put him down, then Mercer almost certainly can.
kainboa
Why? If a train put him down, then Mercer almost certainly can. There is a fairly large difference, between the pure blunt force behind a moving train, and what Mercer can put out. Considering his invulnerability, there is absolutely nothing Mercer can do, to hurt Superman.
Guest skadoosh
Mercer's strength is impressive enough, but it's not his strength that would win him the fight, it's his wide variety of combative abilities and the fact that Superman doesn't really have a way of putting him down. Other than maybe throwing him into space or the sun, but that wouldn't be easy, and if some of Mercer is left on Earth he'd just heal right back up, if i'm not mistaken. I'm thinking Mercer realizes he can knock Superman down, but not hurt him, so he tries to slide some virus-ridden spikeyness all up in Superman's mouth, and then... Well, i'm not sure what would happen next, but whatever happens, it wont be good for Superman.
Indolent
He has his heat vision - meaning he can just simply vaporize Mercer's mass away until there is none left for him to regenerate from. And Superman's physically superior capabilities prevents any chance of Mercer laying a hand on him let alone even hurting him.
Guest skadoosh
Yeah, because Mercer wont just, y'know, move. Well, apparently he isn't very superior. A train took him out. A train. That's a very severe de-powering.
Guest force_echo
I reread the setup, this takes place a couple of years after he gets the Kryptonian suit and that incident with the train, meaning he's stronger, and a helluva lot more durable. Also, a multi-thousand ton vehicle crashing at upwards of 200 miles per hour is an insane amount of kinetic energy and momentum. Probably more than Mercer can put out. Indolent
Sooooo you were saying Skadoosh? Even if it was taken from the incident where a train kicked his ass, he'd still be physically superior to Mercer and win. Quite simple.

Guest Supes Rulez
Guys, this is Superman after the train thing. A couple years later, after he's beaten the 'Collector', inbetween the time of his t-shirt days, and the 'present' where he's taken on those fire and ice creatures from Krypton. Let's say Justice League #1 time period. Hope that clears things up.

Even if it was taken from the incident where a train kicked his ass, he'd still be physically superior to Mercer and win. Quite simple. Physical superiority is the only thing needed to win a fight now, is it? what would happen in that specific case, is Superman would spit out the virus-ridden spike, since it would be unable to penetrate anything in his mouth. I didn't say it would penetrate anything in his mouth, i don't even think that would do any good. I was thinking Mercer could take him over, or consume him, perhaps. Something related to the fact that he is a living virus, seeing as he can't punch or stab Superman to death, so he'll have to use his consumy-virusy-ability. Indolent
Uh yes, seeing as it's the physical superiority (which includes durability) that pretty much makes it impossible for Mercer to damage him let alone consume him. If you're referring to Mercer's intellect and cunning, that's good and all but here it's not going to amount to much against someone who's pretty much immune to anything you can toss at them. Except for Kryptonite. Obviously, heh.
Guest skadoosh
I was, as i have been, referring to his shape-shifting and mass-consuming abilities.
Indolent
...Which amounts to nothing? This is a direct fight. That merely prolongs the fight at best and again, Superman is easily capable of telling who is who via X-Ray and Vaporizing him...
Guest MarxzVulpez
well, the new supes has evened out quite a bit, coming closer too his old self, so he flies mercer into the god damn sun. Supes 1 Mercer zilch.

Supes 1 Mercer zilch. I don't think Superman would do that. Would he win? Probably. But how often does he actually fly his opponents into the sun? How likely would he be able to do it in this scenario?
