Match 13055 Gambit vs. Colossus

The X-men gather in numbers outside of Professor Xavier's mansion to remember the man that taught them how to embrace their mutant abilities and to live peacefully with the people who feared them. After a battle between the X-Men and the Skrull forces that invaded Boston, Professor X was killed along with many of the mutants that drove the Skrulls away. Joining him on that list was Magneto, who led his Brotherhood to assist the X-Men in the conflict. With both leaders now gone it was obvious that the X-Men and the Brotherhood would never be the same again. As the funerals came to a close, Wolverine had not taken his eyes off of Cyclops. Blaming him for the deaths of Professor Xavier and Northstar. Before Cyclops could speak to him about the events that occurred, Wolverine stormed off. As Cyclops started after him, he was cut off by Nightcrawler.

 

-Nightcrawler: "Scott.. Ive been meaning to ask you about the mutants who followed Magneto".

 

-Cyclops: "What about them?".

 

-Nightcrawler: "Well... youlead the X-Men now. They have no place to go. Dont you think we should assist them? Offer them to join us?".

 

-Cyclops: "You're joking right?".

 

-Nightcrawler: "Of course not. I believe its what the professor would have wanted us to do. They are just misguided. With no where else to turn, this could be the time to help them in the right direction".

 

-Cyclops: "Maybe you're right, but now's not the time to make any offers. They will think were trying to capitalize on the death of Magneto. Its best to let them come to us".

 

-Nightcrawler: "Ja maybe you are right Cyclops. Please take it in to consideration soon though. Its not the X-Man way to leave mutants with nowhere to turn".

 

As Nightcrawler vanished, Cyclops noticed Gambit leaving the mansion with all of his belongings. As he followed Gambit to a taxi, he was able to catch him just before the driver could pull away. Gambit seen Cyclops outside the window and rolled it down to hear what he had to say.

 

-Cyclops: "Gambit where are you going?".

 

-Gambit: "Away ami.. Gambit got no more business here without the professor around. Word through the grapevine is that Im not the only one leavin neither".

 

-Cyclops: "What? Were supposed to be a team! Who all is leaving?".

 

-Gambit: "You will soon find out wont you patron? Gambit gotta feeling that most of them have already got one foot out the door".

 

-Cyclops: "Fine! You all want to leave the X-Men then go ahead! Just make sure you dont become a problem Remy, because were no longer on the same team!".

 

With everything crashing down on Cyclops, he decided he should take a head count of the X-Men who wanted to remain loyal. With many deciding to stay with the team, Cyclops was not surprised to see Rouge leave in search of Gambit after hearing of his departure. Even more shocking was the former Brotherhood mutants that asked to be a part of the team. Now without Wolverine, Gambit and Rouge the X-Men had plenty of room for new recruits. Cyclops and Storm then told the former Brotherhood members that they could stay in the mansion for further training and a place live. Quicksilver was the only member of the Brotherhood who refused, considering it against everything the Brotherhood stood for. He left his former team mates vowing to never dawn the uniform of the X-Men. As he sped off it left the X-Men with four new members. Mystique, Blob, Toad, and Sabertooth. Seeing the "new members" from a distance Wolverine ripped the "X" from his costume and left in anger.

 

A few days later a group of X-Men were gathered by Cyclops to look into a suspected mutant testing facility ran by the government. The location was an abandoned train station in upstate New York. Cyclops sent Colossus, Blob, Mystique, Beast, and Sabertooth to the location to help the reformed Brootherhood members function better with their former enemies. As the X-Jet flew away Beast engaged in conversation with Sabertooth to try and understand his reasons for joining the X-Men.

 

-Beast: "Why did yo join us? If you dont mind me asking. With Wolverine on the team I suspected you would be the last mutant Id see in an X-Man uniform".

 

-Sabertooth: "Hehe.. Me too. Then again, I havent seen Wolverine since I joined. Have you?",

 

-Beast: "I'm afraid not. I hope that he does not hold a grudge for us taking you in. It was our duty as X-Men to help all mutants who need us".

 

-Sabertooth: "I hope wherever Logan is, he's in a lot of pain! .... Don worry. I'll be a team player for the X-Men, but Wolverine is a different story".

 

-Beast: "It is not the X-Men way to talk such away of fellow mutants, Victor!".

 

-Sabertooth: "Haha... So Wolverine never wanted to kill me the first chance he got while he was with the X-Men huh?".

 

-Beast: "...Point taken".

 

When the jet landed the team unloaded and began to sneak closer to the facility. As the approached the fence that surrounded the property, they noticed armed guards standing at the entrance.

 

-Sabertooth: "This is gonna be fun".

 

-Colossus: "Sabertooth".

 

-Sabertooth: "I wont kill him. I just wanna have some fun, thats all".

 

Just then the X-Men were spotted by a security camera. As an alert went through the facility, the team sprung into action! Beating down the armed guards and a couple of security bots, they made their way into the building suspected to be holding mutants. As the halls filled with more guards, Beast sneaked up the metal wall to stealth past the guards as they engaged the X-Men. Mystique transformed into one of the guards and made her way through the crowd as well. As Sabertooth, Colossus, and Blob toss around the guards Beast and Mystique find a room of cabinets holding documents telling locations of other mutant holding facilities around the United States. Though there were no longer mutants being held here, the documents found ensured ensured that the X-Men would be able to catch whoever it was that had set these facilities up. As they fought their way back outside, the X-Men were encountered by Wolverine and Iceman.

 

-Wolverine: "Sabertooth!!".

 

-Sabertooth: "Yeah! Now its starting to get interesting! You wouldnt fight a fellow X-Man would you Logan?".

 

-Wolverine: "Youre no X-Man bub, and neither is that sell-out who drafted ya!".

 

As Wolverine lunged at Sabertooth, the two fell to the ground slashing and clawing at one another. Iceman then went after Mystique who had the documents in her possession. Before he could get to her, he was tackled by Beast. Then Blob pinned Iceman to the ground so he could'nt move. As Wolverine began to take control of the fight with Sabertooth he was punched in the face by Colossus. Wolverine flew through the air and into the side of a truck. He stood up and shook his head, but before he could react he seen the X-Men boarding the X-Jet. He ran over to check on Iceman who was having trouble making it to his feet.

 

-Iceman: "That could have went better".

 

-Wolverine: "Did you get those locations?".

 

-Iceman: "No.. Hank of all people hit me like a stack of bricks. Then having that garbage truck lay on me didnt help either".

 

-Wolverine: "Never though Id see the day that Hank and Colossus would kick our cans to save the Brotherhood. Just wait till I see Summers!".

 

As the X-Jet headed back to the mansion, Beast and Colossus were having trouble wrapping their minds around what happened. Fighting former X-Men? What reason could they possibly have for going against Wolverine and Iceman? It just didnt seem right. There must have been something going on that they didnt see.

 

-Blob: "Uh hey... We forgot Mystique".

 

-Colossus: "We must turn around".

 

-Sabertooth: "Don't bother metal-man. I know Mystique. If she was coming with us, she would have already been here. She betrayed us! She's with Wolverine!".

 

-Beast: "How can you be so sure?".

 

-Sabertooth: "Because... She was the only one of us who wasnt in a direct fight back there. She slipped away while the rest of us fought!".

 

-Colossus: "We better inform Cyclops".

 

After contacting Cyclops, the team was given orders to track Mystique through her X-communicator. As they followed her location, she led them into the swamps a few miles away. They landed the jet nearby and followed her on foot. They were surprised to see her chatting with Gambit and a group of former X-Men at a camp when they arrived. It appeared that Mystique had been working with Gambit and telling him whats going on in the X-Mansion the entire time. After handing the documents she stole from the mutant facility.

 

-Colossus: "I must ask you to hand those over to us immediately. We need to show Cyclops the locations of the other mutant testing facilities!"

 

-Gambit: "Ah, the X-Men. What can Gambit do for his old friends? I see you have a few new members. Gambit does not agree with Cyclops's choice in friends, but to each his own, eh?".

 

-Beast: "Gambit we need you to give us those locations. The X-Men need that information to help mutants".

 

-Gambit: "X-Men? Gambit looks around and sees only two X-Men. This looks more like the Brotherhood me. Nah, Gambit gonna hold on to these. Better take your leave now mon'ami. Gambit got no more business with you".

 

-Blob: "Let us rephrase that. Were taking those locations. One way or another".

 

-Gambit: "A bad gamble cooyon. You will booray yourself for sure. Gambit tried asking yo to leave nicely".

 

Sabertooth then lunged at Gambit, but was stopped by Firestar who blasted him with a fire ball in mid-air. Gambit then lead Colossus away from the camp and waited for him in a tree. When Colossus walked past him in search, Gambit leaped from the tree and slammed his staff into the ground next to Colossus. The fight was on!

Im glad you like it Comic_book_fan. Im hoping to get at least four more sequels after this one. Depending on how the fights go. "X-Men in arms" will likely involve at least 4 teams led by different X-Men disputing over the future and the role mutantkind should play in it. This is just the beginning of the arc.

Good setup and I agree Rogue wins this by herself. Rogue will have Ms.Marvel's powers plus take the abilities of the others to win it alone. I like where the story is going so far.

As for the match, Gambit's team could possibly win, but their biggest obstacles would be Colossus and Blob, as their durabilities surpass Rogue's and, IIRC, comics Rogue could never absorb Pete's powers when he went metallic. Whether or not those two could be taken out would likely heavily depend on whether Gambit (or Rogue with Remy's powers absorbed) can muster strong enough kinetic energy-charged attacks to do significant damage.

 

BTW, SP, you may want to try out for this month's challenge. It ends on the 15th.

With the reviews I got from the comments, I didnt expect such a low score for this one. Ill try to improve it in the next match. Ill try to get to "Part II" tomorrow night, or the night after. o.O
