crzyrkrdd
Is it just me or do other people dislike when people give a fighter prep time. It's really vague and could mean anything. I feel that instead the creator of the post should state what the fighter does with the prep time. This whole prep time thing could be a problem because for example lets say batman has to fight thanos, darkseid, and Godzilla, and the creator has given batman a month prep time, some how everyone says batman stomps, HOW?!? At least state what he does with his prep time otherwise I feel it's just a way to give someone an auto-win over whoever I'm sorry if no one agrees with this personal gripe I just wondered if maybe this can be fixed, if anyone shares this problem, or if no one cares that's cool too but it'd be cool if someone helped me understand why so many people do this. Guest Dinsdale Piranha
It's a fair point.
Bergy_Berg
"Prep time" is a little bit vague, but I understand why people use the phrase in their posts. If we take Batman, who is probably the character most often given prep time over more powerful or numerous foes, I think it's just meant to stimulate what we believe he's able to come up with and act on before the actual fight takes place. If the match creator got too specific, they would probably just end up being forced into declaring the winner of the match they're setting up. Guest sirmethos
I made a post/thread about that a while back, so I'll just repeat the general gist of that here. Simply saying "<insert arbitrary character> has X amount of prep. time", is pretty much useless. In order for "prep. time" to actually be something we can use to make a judgement in the outcome of a match, we need more information. For example: What kind of information does the character have(or is part of the "prep time", time that he/she has to use for information gathering)? What kind of resources does the character have, to use for his/her prep. time?(this includes both objects, equipment, people he/she can call for help/information, money, etc.) That said, people also tend to overestimate what can actually be done in a given amount of time/underestimate how much time things actually take. I've seen matches where a character has 1 minute of prep. time. News flash: Unless you are someone with Super-Speed, 1 minute is essentially nothing. It takes more than one minute for Batman to put on his Batsuit -.- On the commenter side of things, people never actually seem to comment on why various characters win, when they have prep. time. For example: Batman with 1 month of prep. People generally just say that Batman wins. Without giving any real reason, other than "Batman with prep.". At least give an example of what you think Batman(in this example) could come up with in 1 month, that makes him able to win the match. If you can't think of anything, and you can't give any examples of things he has done(with 1 month or less, of prep time) in the past, that could give him the win, in this specific match. Then, you can't really defend your position(that batman wins). However, even if you can't think of something he has done in the past. If you can come up with something, that Batman could actually do, that would give him the win(a strategy, a piece of technology, etc.), then chances are that Batman could think of that as well. xLEGACYx
Very well said methos. As far as "prep time" goes all that phrase tells us is he prepares for a fight. General info and equipment are necessary to know in order to completely judge he planning capabilities. Also recently people have begun saying x beats y without any reasoning. Now I understand if its a stomp and people don't want to go into great detail why but they could still give a simple explanation. It takes so much away from discussion when no one explains or provides any details to the conclusions.
Guest sirmethos
Also recently people have begun saying x beats y without any reasoning. Well, I've done that myself, a few times. Generally when I'm one of the first to comment on a match. Generally, if there is no one saying that the other side will win, then I feel no need to defend my statement(that X will win). Hence, simply saying something along the lines of "X wins, easily". Of course, people are welcome to challenge the statement, in which case I will generally defend it, by explaining exactly why X wins.
