I'm really sorry about all the threads, but I've been pretty curious lately. Do you think that if you had Magneto's powers and all his experience with them, you could take over the world?

As Omega pointed out, who said anything about running the world?  The question is only whether you can take over the world.  There is nothing in the OP about delegating the administrative details, once you have secured your dominion.

Once you start Magneetoing it up you are on everyones radar and there is anonymouty. The sniper thing you would have to know it was coming or else it is a silent killer. Unless you had a magnetic field around you at all times to repel metal weopons but then rubber bullets have been known to kill. The only way to chrush all resistance is to destroy all technology and at that point the world isnt worth ruling. So yes its possible but not worth it. Better to just use your powers to have fun but quietly. So think the ist half of Chronicle.

Somebody will figure it out. Every government on earth will be looking for you. And while it is true that those in government don't always act intelligently, it's really unlikely you could escape notice for very long.

And honestly, I don't see doing it subtly as an option. The added powers mean very little in this case. They would only help you keep from being killed.

With Magneto's powers, you have the ability to Control Electro-Magnetic Energy, not to mention a minor ability to control Gravity, and some minor telepathic powers(supposedly).

 

No one is saying that you need to take over the world, the moment you gain those powers(along with Magneto's expertise in using them), it is allowed to do a little experimentation and training.

 

With control of Electro-Magnetic Energy, you are able to control, manipulate, and generate, radio waves, radiation, etc. etc.

 

With Magneto's powers, you are able to use those powers, from the opposite side of the planet(though that takes considerably effort), not to mention the other side of the country, state, or city.  Any and all communication, in your role as the "conqueror", can be done via Radio Waves, transmitted by yourself, to any and all frequencies, without anyone being able to trace them back to you.  Any direct action(such as disabling Weapons of Mass Destruction, surveillance equipment,  taking out personnel tasked with locating, and/or eliminating you , etc. etc.) from a distance where no one can ever connect those actions to you. Say, sitting in an internet cafe, with headphones on, seemingly concentrating on the computer monitor.

 

The day-to-day running of the world, can be delegated to qualified individuals, chosen by yourself, that you communicate with, via Radio Waves.

 

The only reason for the world, or anyone for that matter, to know that you are the same person as <insert alias> that is the conqueror and ruler of the planet, is if you need the publicity to feed your ego.  In which case you deserve a bullet to the head, the gene pool would be better off without you.

 

Taking over the world, after you are done training and experimenting, can be done by transmitting on all Radio Wave frequencies, to the entire planet, that you are <insert alias>, and <insert threats and/or demands>, then going ahead with proving your power, in some suitably visible manner, while you are several miles away from where the "proof" is taking place.

 

Sooner or later, the world will either give in to your demands(making you the ruler), or you will have killed off the entire governments of all the countries in the world, at which point you can appoint your own hand-picked individuals, as the new government, under your leadership.  Either way, you are the ruler of the planet.

 

And thinking up all this, only took about 5 minutes, knowledge of Magneto's powers, a little imagination, and some common sense.  Hell, it took longer to type it out, than it did to come up with the idea.

I believe you are not fully imagining what the world will do to find you. You assume any messages you send are untraceable. Why would they be. Even if they are they look for bizzare spikes in Electro-Magnetic energy. Ok you eliiminate any and all tech that can be used to track you and take out all the weapons. At this point you are just turning all the power on and off at your whim. Than they get desperate and smash any technology, anarchy descends. Because even if the governments give in to you most of the people wont. 

 

 You use your powers to stay the tide anonymously of course. But to do so will either involve always being around when it happens which can go wrong or you are the only one still using technology which will definately give you away because at some point people will start destroying what they see as the eyes and ears of the devil. When this happens how do you appoint anyone to govern for you without ever showing your face and now you cant use technology. 

 

Start a cult online beforehand. Even assuming you can get more than a handful of followers without ever showing your face, they monitor that kind of thing and even if once again you are untraceable you wont be able to properly communicate with them when you start your coup if you really want to rule the world. At some point you will have to step out of the shadows. And if you only do this to your followers all it takes is for one of them to be taken by your enemies or one of them to betray you or even for some desperate soul to determine the crowd you are standing in watching the devil write a message in the sand should be blown up or butchered and you are getting murdered in your sleep or poisoned or something and even if you can wipe out all resistance the only way to do that is to kill everyone. And then you are the ruler of the planet in the sence that Patrick Kavanagh was king of every blooming thing. So I repeat it is possible to take over the world but not worth it.

Which would do absolutely nothing at all in hiding the transmission from the source. All it would accomplish is saving someone a little time. You've been watching too many movies, moving the signal in loops or whatever doesn't change where it comes from, it's just as easy to track as always, ray tracing takes into account directional changes, refraction, diffraction, etc. Besides, Magneto still has to abide by the laws of physics the last time I checked, he can't arbitrarily change the direction of an electromagnetic wave without discharging a traceable amount of energy or having it refract off of some surface. Plus, your communications would be so easy to block or disrupt it's not even funny, you'd be far better off just using the damn internet. Speaking of...

Yes, Magneto can, with his powers, make Electro-Magnetic Energy change direction however he wants it to.

Bending the "rules" is pretty much the essence of his power.  His ability to enhance his own reflexes, to the point of being able to react to a speed blitz attack from Quicksilver or Northstar, is a good example(making the electric signals in his nervous system, move faster than they normally do).

 

You are also (wrongly)assuming that any radio waves used for communication, would have me as the origin point.

 

As for blocking and/or disrupting my communication. Sure, it's possible, but then they would have to block/disrupt all communication on the planet, which would just play into my hands. And make it easier for me to take control.

If I developed superpowers, I wouldn't do anything like taking control. It's far too tedious, and requires far too much work.  I would just make my every day life far more easy for myself.
