Hey all

Sorry, we do not accept Celebrities, Politicians, or other real life people.

Just fictional characters please.

Thanks!

Would, for example, Ronda Rousey be accepted, because of her WWE character, or is that too close to a real person?

Would WWE characters be accepted in general? Or Wrestling characters in general? There's like four well known wrestling companies out of the many that brought out the best characters like Sting, Hulk Hogan as well as Cactus Jack.

I had to look her up.  Yes, that's a celebrity and a real person.  Let's call her an Athlete.  No athletes, please.

Rowdy Roddy Piper is a wrestler and an athlete.  Not acceptable.

The fictional character Rowdy Roddy Piper played in the film They Live is acceptable.

Thanks!

Also, Keanu Reeves is a Celebrity and an actor.  Not acceptable.

The fictional character John Wick played by Keanu Reeves is acceptable.

Thanks!

Figured I try at least. Bummer.

I saw that a few real people were already in the database to a degree and thought I could make a few good matches.

Anyway, sorry.

Oh.  If so, those should probably be removed.

What about fictional versions of real people?

That depends.  It's going to be a fine line.

The 'Historical Figures' in Bill and Teds excellent adventure are fictionalized comedy characters of real people.  That seems reasonable enough to be accepted. Preferable as a group / team entry.

The band 'Kiss' are celebrities and musicians.  But, they also play fictionalized versions of themselves with superpowers in a film 'Kiss meets the phantom of the park' or some such.  I believe they also have the same fictionalized adventures and superpowers in a comic book run.  That version of 'Kiss' is acceptable.

Abe Lincoln is a real person and a politician but the fictionalized character in the film 'Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter' is acceptable.

In all these examples, the characters are clearly fantasy characters, more fiction than real.

Thanks!

I did sometime ago add the Family Guy version of James Woods

I guess that's kind of fictionalized.  But I'm not real familiar with that one.

But I think you get the point.  Adding celebs, reality TV people, athletes, politicians, etc. is to be avoided.

Understandable.

So, in the same vain as Kiss, would a wrestler be allowed entry if their character appears in other media besides the wrestling ring?

Many wrestlers are featured in comic books. Such as the WWE series by BOOM!

Individuals such as Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and The Rock are understood as characters/personas and not the actual person playing them.

I'm unfamiliar with the BOOM comic book series.  Do said WWE characters have fictionalized powers?  Is there some Fantasy element to it?

I'll come at it from the other angle.  Here's what I don't want.

I don't want some fool showing up and adding Honey Boo-Boo and the Kardashians in to the Data Base and having Reality TV matches.  Or adding politicians, or porn actresses.

And I don't want them pointing at other Real-Life Celebrities already in the Database and saying, well, you let that one in so why not mine?

So we're trying to set a consistent, neutral guideline that the CBUB Database is for fictional characters.  Does this make sense?

My thought on it would be as long as it is "Undertaker" and not "Mark Calaway" being added then we are adding the persona. WWE, AEW, NXT etc... they're all actors. I think a good way to get around that would be to add 6 "Wrestling Test Characters" to the database. That way we don't flood the base, and the ferreters can have their setups say who they are.

Honey Boo Boo is Honey Boo Boo there is no other version of her, thats unfortunate reality.

Just shooting ideas.

I would say that the WWE character should have an image that shows a fictionalized version.

This image from the BOOM series is Comic Book-like

SEP171300.jpg

His punch tears up the ground and whatnot.  That is clearly a fictionalized representation.

Anyways, WWE characters I guess could be acceptable.  As long as they seem more like fighting characters and not Celebrities.

Sorry, I'm not a wrestling fan so I have never seen them as anything but Actors and Celebrities.  I'm open to a new interpretation on that point.

But I am trying to avoid Real People.

Undertaker is one of my all time favorites.

Just click on the little [GIF] box in the toolbar when commenting. Search for something like 'undertaker'.  Insert meme into post.  Yay!

Yeah it makes sense, I have no problem with it and I wouldn't want people adding ridiculous characters like you mentioned. Keeping a guideline is the smart thing to do.

The WWE characters do kind of have powers, at least they have exaggerated strength or feats of what they do in the ring. (Undertaker being undead, Kane using fire)

I think as long as we have a solid fictional version of a character to draw from, we should allow them to the database.

And just a quick question. Is there a way to delete a character image submission if the submission is rejected?

There's no requirement to delete the character image in the Gallery.  It can stay there.  Or the original uploader can remove it.

Naturally, if the image is fully offensive then it and the user are probably getting removed from the site.

Just to close out the WWE topic, let's say Pro Wrestlers as real people are fine, just as long as we view them more like super powered characters than celebrities.

Other real people submissions should be viewed with skepticism.
