Osiris is a god of the pharoahs as well as a god of the dead! 

We are therefore talking about the might of the egyptian armies, as well as that of the dead (mummies?) in a fantastical setting. 

This is an army at the height of its power, spanning over most of a continent and building monuments that have lasted until today.
